Higher Volume = Lower Shipping Costs!

FedEx

RockAuto's growing sales volume qualifies for lower shipping rates from FedEx, our primary carrier. It's always been our policy to charge customers what carriers charge us, so we're passing on the savings. Some Ground orders now ship for less than $4. Customers outside the USA, who need Air shipping, or who order large items or combinations that have to ship from multiple warehouses still pay more--but a lot less than before.

Thank you, RockAuto customers, for placing the orders that make lower rates possible. Shopping at RockAuto always has been the most cost-effective way to buy auto parts--and now it costs even less!

 You've been asking for it!

Metro Logo

RockAuto now has the weatherstripping, seals, grommets, rubber bumpers, etc. you have been looking for. For over a quarter of a century, Metro Moulded Parts, Inc. has made rubber parts for the automotive restoration industry ranging from rare 1930's models to the latest foreign and domestic models.

Find these parts in the RockAuto catalog under BODY-INTERIOR & BODY- EXTERIOR.

 Take a Brake Quiz

The old saying is, “When you're out of brake fluid, you're out of brakes.” What else do you need to know about this important system? Find out below.

QUESTIONS:

1. The best way to check the condition of your car's braking system is to have the rear wheels inspected.
(T) (F)

2. When coming to a stop, a pulsating pedal indicates your brake fluid is low.
(T) (F)

3. When you depress the brake pedal and your foot falls slowly to the floor, the master cylinder should be checked for internal leakage.
(T) (F)

4. If your vehicle tends to pull to the right when applying the brakes, the reason could be a malfunctioning left brake.
(T) (F)

5. A squealing sound when brakes are applied could be a warning sign of advanced wear.
(T) (F)

ANSWERS
1. False. Because safe stopping involves all four wheels, all four brakes should be inspected. 2. False. Pulsating comes from warped brake rotors or drums, which should be resurfaced or replaced for best braking action. 3. True. A pedal that falls to the floor when pressure is applied indicates hydraulic leakage in the braking system. Get it checked! 4. True. Brake problems are among several reasons for "pulling" when brakes are applied. Others include an under inflated tire and/or steering malfunction. 5. True. Wear sensors built into most braking systems make a squealing sound, signaling the driver to have brakes checked before serious wear occurs. The noise also can come from excessively worn brake pads. Brake rotors are the metal disks that the front (and sometimes rear) brake pads push against to stop the vehicle. Older, rear wheel drive cars usually had hefty, thick brake rotors that could be resurfaced by a machine shop if scratched or worn. Brake rotors on many newer cars are much thinner and lighter and must be replaced rather than resurfaced.

Newer rotors are also more susceptible to warping. Warping may result from heat generated during braking, overtightened attachment bolts, overtightened lug nuts, brake calipers that fail to release, or anything else that overheats or stresses the rotors. Symptoms of warped rotors may include steering wheel vibration and brake pedal pulsation during braking. A bluish tint or other discoloration on the surface of the rotor is also a sign that the rotor has been damaged by heat.

Find rotors in the RockAuto catalog under BRAKE/WHEEL HUB.
