RockAuto Expands Heat Transfer Product Line

As RockAuto continues to grow, product selection keeps up the pace. This month, RockAuto focuses on the heat transfer product line - including radiators, A/C compressors, condensers, evaporators, and heater cores. The expansion includes:

Addition of Delphi radiators & A/C compressors, condensers & evaporators
  • Delphi is the newest line to be offered in the catalog. Delphi products focus on later and current model GM applications (1988-2003), are new OE replacement parts, and all are made of aluminum. All aluminum means optimized heat transfer and corrosion resistance.
Addition of Spectra Premium heater cores and expanded availability of Spectra Premium radiators

  • RockAuto is now able to ship Spectra Premium products from more locations around the country for faster delivery.
Update of Stant heater core applications.

  • The update includes 2002 models.

Maintenance Tip A major part of the heat and A/C system is the heater core. The heater core looks like a mini radiator and transfers heat from the engine coolant to the interior of the car. Coolant dripping from under the dashboard, coolant smell, and fogged up (slimey feeling) windows are all signs that the heater core is leaking. A new heater core is usually a relatively inexpensive part, but on many vehicles a lot of time and labor is needed for replacement. Unfortunately, the new heater core and subsequent new heater cores may fail quickly if electrolysis is occuring in the cooling system. Electrolysis happens when there is a faulty electrical ground connection somewhere in the engine. Electrolysis ionizes and acidifies the coolant which causes metal to be removed from the heater core. The result is pinhole leaks. Electrolysis can be reduced or eliminated by installing a ground wire between the heater core and the car body and by making sure that any existing ground straps are making a good electrical connection. Scraping away a little paint or using a serrated nut will often do the trick. Also be sure to flush the cooling system and use new coolant.

CC SPOTLIGHT

Each month RockAuto puts the spotlight on a customer and his or her vehicle or profiles one of the clubs we have featured on our links page. This month we bring to you our customer, Karl Frost, his Chevrolet Impala SS, and the auto club he belongs to: GM High Performance Club.

Karl writes: I bought my 1995 Chevrolet Impala SS with 136k miles and fell in love with it. Unfortunately, with a high milage car, you must perform high dollar replacements. RockAuto has helped me with quality AC Delco parts at fair prices. I have purchased many maintenance parts for my car as well as parts for my family and friends. There are so many places you can purchase AC Delco parts, but with RockAuto, you also get excellent customer service and satisfaction along with incredible prices. My Impala currently has over 200,000 miles and it's going strong thanks to RockAuto!

Karl Frost is a member of the GM High Performance Club(GMHPC) of Montgomery, Alabama. Bob Hinson, president, founded the club in 1988. The GMHPC was formed for the enjoyment of area General Motors owners and other American muscle cars. The club currently has 47 members. The primary goal is to provide motor sport activities for GM owners, and share collective knowledge of GM performance and maintenance. The club promotes and participates in car shows, drag racing events and cruises.

"There was not a club for many of the cars in our area unless you owned a Corvette, Mustang or Street Rod and we filled a void. We have grown fast because of our friendly members and are now one of the major clubs in Alabama," said Bob.

GMHPC has hosted the largest cruise event in central Alabama for two years in a row. It is easy to spot members at events who are adorned with their club caps, shirts and jackets. GMHPC also hosted The Super Summer Car & Truck Show in Prattville, AL last year and will do so again June 2003.

Bob said in keeping with their main goal, GMHPC is informative, interesting and has something to offer for everyone. "Our approach is a no-hassle way to educate people and show them what our club has to offer. We hope you take the time to explore our site at gmhpclub.com and find out what truly makes us different from the rest, " said Bob.
