Dear RockAuto,
I would just like to say that you guys are great! I ordered exterior mirrors
for my little '98 Chevy S10 on a Wednesday afternoon and got them
on Friday morning the same week! Not only that, but your prices were the
best
online
and locally.
I am a do it yourself kinda girl and I will definitely be ordering
from you again.
Thank you very much,
Christine in Georgia

Tech Tip / 1993 Ford Escort LX Stabilizer Bar
Link Replacement |
|

|
From the pages of the RockAuto Part
Advice Wiki where you can find many useful tips like this one.
Diagnosis and Part Selection Advice:
How did you know this part needed replacement? Why did you choose a certain
brand/part number?
When I replaced my front brake pads recently, I noticed that the RF stabilizer
bar had separated from the control arm - possibly due to age plus a Chicago
springtime pot hole! The bolt had sheared adjacent to the head.
Spicer seemed to offer the most options including a "professional" grade
kit. I opted to buy a complete kit for the front end and replace both
sides.
Part Comments
What came in the box? Were additional nuts, bolts, sealant, etc. needed
for the repair?
The RockAuto website has a nice photo showing the contents
of the kit. The only thing I added was some grease on the bolts and nuts
to hopefully
help prevent rust.
Repair / Installation Tips:
Special tools needed? Have to remove other parts to reach this one? Any
left-hand threads, sharp edges, messy fluids or other pitfalls to avoid?
On the RF side, the head of the bolt had already sheared,
so with a little persuasion, everything came off easily. When I was installing
the new
parts, I had to use a jack to raise the control arm to straighten everything
out. Install the bolt head on the control arm side and the nut on the
stabilizer bar side on this car. (This is opposite from the instruction
sheet received with the kit). You will need a 9/16" socket to tighten
the nut and a 9/16" box wrench to hold the bolt head. Adjust the
exposed threads to no more than 3/4".
The LF side bolt sheared off (on the nut side) as I was removing it.
However, the plastic spacer would not separate easily from the assembly.
I used vice grips to hold the plastic spacer and a 12 mm socket on a
ratchet to loosen the bolt. Eventually the plastic spacer comes off and
you are home free. |

| 1962 Cadillac in England |
 |
I thought you would like to see my 1962 Cadillac.
She just had a full
brake service done. The brake shoes, drums, cylinders,
along with replacing all the brake pipe work. Also replaced the rear
lower control arms and bushings.
The car has been in the UK for about three years....and what can I say...the
feeling you get when you drive this fine lady is so good and the attention
she draws from people of all ages is great!
We searched for almost ten years before we found her...I just love it.
When we show the car it is amazing the number of people who
just want to touch her and especially the rear fins. Most people
are amazed at this piece of American automotive history.
Regards,
Mark Kibble (England) |
