I have to give a big Thank You to RockAuto
for the amazing service that I received. I am based in the U.K.
and run a GMC Sierra
truck as my business vehicle, I can't afford to have downtime on it, so when
it sprang a fatal radiator leak, I was anticipating having to lay out
a bundle of cash and
to be off the road for a couple of weeks or so (most suppliers over here quoted
10-14 days for delivery of a radiator).
I found RockAuto on a Google search, easy match of the radiator
(I went for the Visteon) at a great price. I ordered on Wednesday October
3, it was delivered
to me by FedEx on Monday morning October 8th.
I fitted it the same afternoon, an easy job as it just dropped into place
and everything was were it was supposed to be. The quality and the price
was just
great-including FedEx and customs duty.
We need all the help we can get
over here as gasoline prices have just reached £1 per Litre.
Thanks again to all at RockAuto!
Best regards,
Ray

RockAuto.com Returns To The 2008 Super Chevy
Show |
|

NEWS RELEASE
RockAuto.com Returns to the 2008 Super Chevy Show
(Etna, OH) Roger Gustin, President of
AutoStar Productions, Inc., producers of the Super Chevy
Show, announced that RockAuto.com
has returned as a sponsor for 2008 season. Gustin stated, “We
are pleased that RockAuto.com has re-signed as a sponsor of
our Super Chevy Shows and we are once again proud to
promote their huge assortment of parts and products throughout
the 2008 tour.”
“My first car memory as a kid is hanging
on tight in the backseat of my dad's turquoise '67 Impala SS
convertible.
RockAuto.com is a family auto parts business and Chevrolets
are still part of our family. We own them and sell parts for
every Chevy car and truck made since the 1940s. One of the
most satisfying parts of the business is helping customers
keep their vehicles on the road, looking good, and running
great. That could mean providing an affordable fender for a
2002 Silverado
or a blueprinted, 440 HP, crate engine for a 1969 Corvette.
We are happy at RockAuto.com to be able to continue to help
the Super Chevy Show celebrate some great cars,” stated
Tom Taylor of RockAuto.com.
The Taylor family founded RockAuto LLC
in Madison, Wisconsin in 1999. Their engineering background,
passion for old cars,
and desire to liberate information hidden behind the auto parts
store counter led the Taylors to start RockAuto.
“RockAuto.com was very involved in the 2007 series.
It is great to see a company like RockAuto.com that is passionate
about their business, and will dive head first into our sponsor
program to get maximum exposure and benefits. I hope that our
Chevy fans will always think of our sponsors first when they
are making their buying decisions,” said Greg Baumer,
National Sales / Advertising Director of AutoStar Productions,
Inc. |

Try And Build A Car From Scratch |
|
|
My brother
Jim has kept all his cars except for his very first car, a
1968 Mustang my parents
passed down to him. Most of the Mustang’s life was spent
in salty places like Detroit so rust was a big problem. Jim spent
countless hours welding, but it was often hard to find good metal
to weld the new metal to.
Jim was driving down the freeway one day at about 70 mph when
the structure the hood latch was mounted to tore away from
the car. The hood flew open, broke the windshield, and crushed
the roof. Jim sold the car to a Mustang restoration shop to
use for parts.
Many years have passed, but Jim still
has a haunted look in his eyes when he thinks about the old
family Mustang. Should
he have kept on welding? I have been speculating for awhile
that it might be possible to build an entire car with parts
from RockAuto so I wondered if I could give Jim a ’68
Mustang kit as a birthday present.
I dove into the RockAuto.com catalog
and put together a shopping cart full of parts. I cut out
frivolous things like air conditioning,
but enhanced safety by putting brake calipers rather than drums
on the front. Choosing a long block engine meant I did not
have to pick pistons, camshaft, etc. Other complicated systems
were harder to figure out. For example, building a complete
steering system out of all the rods, links, bushings, “power
cylinder”,
etc. took a lot of guessing without a real car to look at.
I put well over one hundred parts and assemblies in my shopping
cart that added up to over $6000 but never really came close
to building a complete Mustang. It would have only looked like
a Mustang from a long distance away.
The new parts available are mostly meant
to replace parts that commonly wear out or rust away. For
example, RockAuto
has the switches, bushings, etc. to rebuild a steering column
but not the steering column’s metal structure which lasts
indefinitely. The new doors would have new window regulators
in them, but no window glass. The new rear differential gears
would not have a new axle body to house them. The interior
would have nice new carpet over a new floor pan but no seat
structures.
So I discovered that it is better to start with a car, even
one in bad shape, than to try and build a car from scratch.
Even a relatively simple 1960s car has a heck of a lot of parts.
Jim should feel bad about getting rid of that old Mustang!
I also better understand why it is so easy to spend $10K, $15K
or more restoring a badly deteriorated car.
Maybe I should next try building a complete
car from the RockAuto.com catalog using parts from different
model years. Like that old
Johnny Cash song where he builds a ’59, ’60, ’61
etc. Cadillac by steadily pilfering parts from the assembly
line…

| Fred's BMW |
 |
I am a typical DIYer driving
a 1994 BMW 540i. RockAuto has helped me put over a 150,000
miles on
this
Beamer.
One day the car started to idle and run rough.
The check engine light indicated dirty fuel injectors.
I tried cleaning the fuel injectors with a high dollar
fuel injector pressure cleaning system.
After many hours, and repeating the process several times,
the car still ran rough and the idle never improved.
I ordered a set of remanufactured fuel
injectors from RockAuto...they arrived
in just a couple
of days. After removing the old injectors it was clear I wasted
my time trying to clean them. I installed the new injectors and
the car instantly
idled smoother, had quicker throttle response, and drove fantastic.
Thanks RockAuto for providing quality auto
parts at reasonable prices.
