| Rack and pinion bellows are designed to keep road debris out of the inner tie rod and the rack and pinion shaft. Some rack and pinion bellows have a vented shaft constructed inside the bellow, which allows air to transfer from one side of the rack and pinion to the other when the vehicle makes a turn. Inspection and maintenance of the bellows increases the life expectancy of the rack and pinion and inner tie rod. |
