Software Engineer

Position Description

We build all our software in-house. It isn't easy but the results exactly match the needs of our customers and our business. We don't have to "work around" our systems and, when we see an opportunity, we can make changes quickly. At RockAuto, software is a tool, not an ediface.

As a Software Engineer, you'll work with modern, web-based technology (we don't have a single line of code older than 1999) to improve our catalog, manage orders and inventory, process data and images from suppliers, translate catalog content into other languages, etc. RockAuto's organization is as flat as it gets: you will be one of a handful of people who invent, create and operate the infrastructure of a high-volume e-commerce business.

Position Requirements

To be a good fit for this opportunity you will have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with top-tier academic performance
  • Familiarity with open-source development technologies such as PHP, Perl, Java and JavaScript (Linux system administration skills would be a plus)
  • Talent for writing focused, fast, efficient and well-documented software
  • Proven success designing and building clever solutions to business problems
  • Desire and ability to handle all the responsibilities of an Engineer - including Analyst, Architect, Developer, Tester, and Trainer
  • Ability to work for any US employer without visa sponsorship

Why RockAuto?

Strategic impact. We're an e-commerce company. The entire business, including all our internal programs and our external catalog, runs on your software. IT is not in the basement or behind the computer room here!

Strong growth, unique business model. RockAuto has posted 10 years of double-digit sales growth in a mature industry with very large, established competitors. Software -- especially our distinctive consumer-focused catalog -- makes the difference.

Open, friendly environment. Everyone sits in an open space, encouraging collaboration and teamwork. Our flat structure creates transparency and enables near-constant implementation of employees' creative ideas and solutions. Office outings, like the annual winter holiday party, are a great way to connect with fellow employees. For those looking for some competition, RockAuto even has a kickball team!

Excellent compensation -- competitive wage, overtime pay for all positions, a generous allowance of paid holidays and personal time off, and a tradition of rewarding individual results and sharing the fruits of company success.
